Do Your Due Diligence Before Appointing An International Shipping Company

If you need to move goods abroad, for whatever reason, you will need the services of one of the international shipping companies in the UK. There are quite a lot of them and every last one of them will tell you how good they are. However, it is best to undertake a little research first.

If you are a business that is planning to move shipments on a regular basis to certain worldwide destinations, you really need to know whether the shipping company has experience of the destinations that you require. Different countries have different regulations as to what they will and won’t let in, and as to conditions of entry. What you don’t want is to find that your shipment is stuck in a customs warehouse at YOUR expense because the shipping company you chose didn’t know that they had to have a document signed in triplicate and written on a blue sheet of paper! That might sound silly, but what if something like that happened to you?

Even if you are only needing to ship a small carton – say an antique desk to a customer in Venezuela – you want to be confident that it will arrive in one piece. You cannot replace an antique desk, and if it gets damaged on the way to the customer it could cost you thousands of pounds, to say nothing of the damage to your reputation as an international antiques dealer.

So yes, do your due diligence before you appoint a shipping company to carry out the tasks that you need.
