How To Create a Moving Budget

When moving, there’s so many things to do that making a budget is probably not so high on your priority list. However, not being prepared could cost you huge amounts of money in the long run.

If you want to reduce the chances of you blowing through your savings, set a budget first before you start doing anything. Allocating resources to essential activities first will help you understand how much is left for other less important things, like buying new pieces of furniture or stocking up your shelves.

Survival first, luxuries later

The most important thing is that you can survive for a few months with enough food, clothes and comfort so that your exciting new move is still as exciting as you’d imagined.

You can always treat yourself to some luxuries once you are truly settled into your new life.

How to Prepare The Essentials When Moving Home

When moving home, not packing a box of essentials is an easy mistake to make. But when you open the door to your new place and realise you have literally nothing you need to survive for the weeks or months before your shipment arrives, you’ll regret not having a selection of essential items to keep you ticking over in the meantime.

Set aside a ‘small’ box

Don’t forget you need to bring this box with you to your new home – Spain, Portugal or France removals might allow you to drive to your new destination, but you may have to get a flight, so don’t choose a box that is too large.

The box of essentials should contain only items you will need when you first move. This could include items needed to cook meals during your first few days or things like, hammers, nails and screwdrivers to assemble your new furniture.

What if it doesn’t fit?

If you simply can’t fit your essential things into your cabin and hold luggage for example, make sure you still pack an essentials box and label it appropriately so that you can access it as soon as your removals to France or any other part of Europe arrives.

You might have to survive on packet noodles in the meantime, but at least you won’t have to go searching through everything when you arrive.

-          Canned snacks and packet noodles

What to Take When Moving Abroad

Getting the relocation process right is an art. There are so many important things to balance out with the sheer excitement that comes with making the important decision to move to a new country. If you are not careful however, you can let the details overwhelm you.

To take some of the stress out of the process, it’s important to think well in advance about what you actually need to bring with you when moving abroad. We’ve outlined some essentials below.

Define your approach

Before you start, think about what the purpose of your trip is and how long you plan to go for. You can avoid much of the stress by simply creating a framework for yourself to work within. Are you moving for a defined period of just one year? Or perhaps indefinitely?

Buy or take?

When working with international shipping companies, moving items over long distances costs money and it might actually be cheaper to just buy new items when you arrive in your destination, rather than paying for loads of space in a lorry. Consider whether it is more cost effective and practical to take each item with you or get rid of it and buy new ones.

How to Downsize Before Your Move Abroad

The joy of moving abroad naturally comes with a few challenges. However, if you approach them in the right way, they can become enjoyable and therapeutic – even helping you to mentally prepare for the next stage of your life.

One of these serious challenges is downsizing your life before you leave your home country. To do this requires you to be strict on yourself and keep the end goal in mind. After all, you won’t be able to take everything with you when you embark on your new journey. And if you take too much, you will end up paying international shipping companies a fortune when moving overseas!

Sell your old items

To add a little excitement into the process, you can choose to sell some of your unused and old items to new owners. As well as giving them a new home, you can make a bit of money to help you with the relocation costs.

There are numerous ways to sell items which range from traditional car boot sales to online apps and social media. However you do it, make sure you have an idea about the lowest prices you want to sell each item for. This will make the negotiation process much easier. If you are selling on eBay or another application, be sure to add a decent postage charge, otherwise you may end up not making any profit on your sold items.

Give items to charity

Some items are simply not worth selling. Or, if you are feeling generous, you may want to give valuable items to your favourite charities. This way, you can get rid of larger volumes of items with significant ease. Many high-street charities will take bags of clothes, furniture or miscellaneous items to be organised and sold to customers – with the profits going to whatever cause they represent.

What to Know When Moving to Europe

Are you studying abroad for a semester in Europe? Or perhaps being transferred by your company to another branch? Whatever the situation, there’s a great deal of preparation that needs to be done before packing your bags for Europe.

1.      1.Learn the language

Not everyone speaks English! While a great deal of people do indeed speak English, and you would expect the percentage of people in Europe that can command this language would be high, this is no excuse to neglect the fact that every European country has its own language – even if you’re only considering removals to France. As well as needing to understand the basics to communicate with people in your day to day life, you should also try to speak the local language as a gesture of respect.

2. Get to know where you’ll live

Do some research about the area you’ll be living before you go. Don’t just check where the best bars are. Also look into where the important facilities and amenities are like hospitals, chemists, dentists, libraries and supermarkets. You’ll also need to find out how you can navigate around the city, whether this is on foot or by public transport.

3.      3. Find a good place to live

If you’re not sure where you’re staying yet, start to research areas that you might want to look for accommodation in. If you won’t have accommodation already set up, it’s easy to just choose the cheapest and easiest option available. However, the best thing to do is to inquire into things like safety, atmosphere and proximity to essential locations. One tactic, if you’re considering removal companies to France, is to temporarily book yourself into a rental apartment so you can explore the neighbourhoods in person.
